How to Prepare Your Wollongong Home for Stormy Weather

Inspect Your Roof

Secure Loose Items Outdoors

Outdoor furniture, pots, trampolines, and garden equipment become dangerous in storm winds. Secure or bring inside anything that could become a projectile. Anchor shade sails and awnings.

Check Fences and Retaining Walls

Storm damage frequently topples weakened fences and retaining walls. Press firmly on fence posts — any movement indicates rotting or inadequate footings. Repair before storm season rather than after.

Check Windows and Door Seals

Poorly sealed windows and doors allow wind-driven rain to penetrate. Check that all seals are intact and replace any that show gaps or deterioration.

Know What to Do During a Storm

If a storm hits, stay inside and away from windows. Don’t attempt to make emergency repairs during storm conditions. After the storm, document any damage with photos before arranging repairs — you’ll need evidence for insurance claims.
